MIUI 13 launched in India with system optimizations and some new wallpapers

MIUI 13 has finally arrived in India. And with monthly active users crossing 500 million globally, it is not unsafe to say that a large chunk of them are Indians who have been eagerly awaiting its launch since the Chinese arrival in December 2021. This premise will probably disappoint knowing that the update is focused on performance. Once again, remember the UI-related changes for the second time in a row.

The latest version of MIUI revolves around four elements, which aim to improve the user experience and reduce power consumption. The list is topped by the Optimized File Storage System which is claimed to keep the read/write speeds tip-top even after 36 months of usage. Xiaomi says that other Android skins do not focus on defragmentation like MIUI, which results in them losing up to 50% of R/W speed over 3 years.

Then there's RAM optimization, which is claimed to increase background process efficiency by up to 40%, allowing more apps to run at once and helping achieve a better multitasking experience. It is tied to Processor Priority Optimization which employs automatic CPU/GPU allocation to help the OS prioritize foreground apps.

Lastly, there's the promise of up to 10% better battery life thanks to Smart Balance.

Also, for visual elements, Xiaomi has partnered with the Science of Beauty to bring you a bunch of cool, new live wallpapers inspired by the crystallization of various substances. Note that like MIUI 12's Super Wallpapers, these will not be available on all devices. Nevertheless, lower-end devices can enjoy a whole new collection of static wallpapers that look like a breath of fresh air.

The upgraded widget support, which was one of the highlights of MIUI 13 China, seems to have been abandoned for now, but you get a new sidebar feature. It allows access to your favorite apps with just one swipe. A great use-case for this would be dragging the Notes app as a small window to the current app for some quick jotting.

MIUI 13 in India will begin the rollout with flagships and recent launches. The first wave will achieve this by Q1 2022, as depicted above.
